“Wear traditional Thai attire throughout the city” to match the atmosphere of the King Narai the Great Festival in the year 2568, held from February 14–23 February 2568, children are encouraged to come together and dress in traditional Thai attire to help preserve and promote the region’s beautiful arts and culture, as well as to revive traditional Thai games that are gradually fading away with time. Today’s games include “Pao Kab,” a one-on-one rubber band blowing competition, and “Ma Kaan Kluey” with teachers on hand to demonstrate and guide the children. There was also “Mon Hide-and-Seek,” where players form a circle and guess who the cloth will land on. The most fun and exciting game of the day was “Snake Eats Tail,” which can be played by many children, from Pre-K all the way up to the older students. Xin Jia Yu Yi Xin Ni Huo Chai—the Chinese New Year—is another important holiday for Thai people of Chinese descent. It is celebrated together with family and is also a tradition that involves paying respects to ancestors and deities, as well as seeking blessings from elders to bring good fortune before the start of the new year. Today’s activities for the students at SAMARTKID included making tanghoulou, folding lion paper cutouts, and performing a lion dance, culminating in the students receiving red envelopes from the school administration.
